Land deals: Stay order stays
KATHMANDU, FEB 01 -
The Supreme Court on Tuesday gave continuity to the stay order issued by a single bench of Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi on January 19 on the government’s decision to legalise property transactions sanctioned by the Maoists’ parallel administration during the conflict.
A full bench of Justices Damodar Sharma, Kalyan Shrestha and Tahir Ali Ansari issued the order to this effect. The bench on January 19 had stated that the writ be sent to the full bench of the apex court citing the gravity of the issue.
A group of lawyers belonging to Democratic Lawyers’ Association had moved the SC against the Cabinet decision to legalise the properties purchased, sold and distributed by the Maoist-run government.
