BHAKTAPUR, JAN 31 -

Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has said that the government issued new classified directive to restrict information of public importance as per law concerning Right to Information.

He said journalists should not critise and condemn the government's recent move as the direction has been issued as per law.

Upon his arrival in Nagarkot to inaugurate Naldum Fair on Tuesday morning, PM Bhattarai said, "Journalists are seen irate since few days; there is no reason for being furious. We have not tried to ditch Right to Information."

He said the government issued such directives for national security.

The prime minister also clarified there is no hand of government's political leadership in the decision.

PM Bhattarai said, "I have also come from journalism background. I have no intention to hide any public information’s, the decision has been taken as per country’s law."

He said the decision can be corrected if it is proved wrong.

"I have a meeting with the journalists this afternoon, the government is ready to fulfil the demands," Bhattarai said.

The government had issued a new classified information directive that restricts an individual, the media or any organisation from gaining 140 types of information, including those on big development projects, parliamentary decisions and major decisions of the government.
