Jajarkot students go to school on alternate days
JAJARKOT, JAN 27 -
An under-resourced school in Jajarkot district has found a new way to smoothly run classes. Rokaya-based Himjyoti Primary School has asked students to attain classes on alternate days.
The school with more than 150 students has long been without enough classrooms and necessary infrastructure. Constru-cted five years ago with the help of local people, the school building has four rooms—one administration section, another for puja and the remaining two classrooms.
Principal Premkala Giri said students having odd and even roll numbers have been divided and asked to come on alternate days. She said the school resorted to the move under utter compulsion.
One of the students, Shila Thapa, said she and her brother don’t go to school on the same day with the new rule coming into force. The move is to accommodate all students, said a teacher, Jayaraj Giri.
Not only infrastructure resources, the school is also suffering from paucity of teachers. Giri said a teacher has to take multiple classes at the same time. “Even when only students with either even or odd roll numbers are present on a day, it would be difficult for a teacher to take multiple classes due to lack of space,” he said.
Repeated requests to authorities concerned to construct a building has not been heard so far, said Khadka Bahadur Giri, chairman of the school management committee.
When the Post took the matter to the District Education Office, its chief Girman Thapa said his office was concerned over the pathetic situation of the school.
