Oppositions lash out at Maoist for statute delay
KATHMANDU, JAN 27 -
Main opposition parties--Nepali Congress and CPN-UML-- lashed out at the UPCN (Maoist) for their insensibility towards statute drafting. They charged that such carelessness from the Maoist side could take its toll in the process.
Opposition parties, during the Constitutional Committee meeting on Friday, said doubts have surfaced over the promulgation of timely statute after the Maoist Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal, also the CC chief, remained absent in the meeting.
UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, after the meeting, said the meeting could not discuss on the disputed issues as none of the top brass of the Maoist showed up for the meeting. He blamed the Maoist of not being responsible in the constitution drafting process.
Leader of Sadhbhavana Party Laxman Lal Karna said the constitution drafting process has been affected as the major political parties are still seen at odds in the major issues to be adopted in the new constitution. As per the calendar of events of the new constitution, the disputed issues have to be settled by Jan 29.
Parties are yet to arrive on an agreement on the issues already settled by the Dispute Resolution Sub-Committee after the Mohan Baidya faction of the Maoist raised serious concern on the same.
