NC, UML to stand firm against govt move to legalise war-era dealings
KATHMANDU, JAN 27 -
Main opposition parties--Nepali Congress and CPN-UML-on Friday decided to stand firm against the government's decision to legalise land and property transactions made through parallel governments run by the Maoists during the decade-long armed conflict.
The meeting of the NC and UML held at the latter’s parliamentary party office this afternoon also accused the UCPN (Maoist) of delaying twin tasks of the peace process and statute drafting and decided to pressurise the Maoist following discussions with other political parties.
According to the sources, the leaders of the opposition parties also condemned sole decisions taken by the State Restructuring Commission.
The leaders also lashed out at the Maoists for their insensibility towards statute drafting following the absence of Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in the Constitutional Committee meeting held this morning They charged that such carelessness from the Maoist side could take its toll in the process.
Emerging from the meeting, UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal accused the Maoists of not showing concern over statute drafting.
“Maoist Chairman’s absence makes it clear that the party is not serious over constitution writing,” Nepal said.
