A meeting held between the coalitions partners, UCPN (Maoist) and SLMM, at Baluwatar on Wednesday discussed the issue following mounting pressure for a rollback of the decision and decided to hold talks with the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies (MoCS).

SLMM co-chairman Laxman Lal Karna said his party urged the Prime Minister to reconsider the recent hike or introduce relief packages for consumers.

Meanwhile, the Supply Ministry on Wednesday evening held discussions with student unions over their demand for the revocation of the fuel price hike, according to Minister Lekh Raj Bhatta. “Although no decisions have been made so far, the ministry could come up with a decision until Thursday morning,” Bhatta said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Minister Bhatta, responding to student leaders’ queries, said it is up to the PM and the political parties to roll back the hike, ruling out an immediate revocation.

Thirteen student unions, including the one affiliated to the ruling UCPN (Maoist, are on the roar over the fuel price hike. They enforced a general strike in the Kathmandu Valley on Wednesday and warned of a decisive protest if the government fails to address their demand.
