Maoist paper focuses on revolt too

KATHMANDU, JAN 25 -

Despite a claim of the Maoist top leaders that the party has been united on the path of peace and constitution at least until May 27, documents reveal that the Central Committee meeting put equal emphasis on revolt as well.

A document endorsed by the Maoists’ CC meeting on January 15, which has been kept confidential, states that the party is committed towards revolt taking necessary initiatives from the level of government, streets and the parliament. “The party has adopted such policy since long and we remain committed to it,” the document reads.

At a time when the opposition parties are saying that the peace process should be completed before finalising content of the new constitution, the Maoists’ official document states that constitution drafting and peace process will go simultaneously. In the CC meeting, Dahal had presented a document highlighting the peace and constitution

writing, while Baidya had presented a counter document stating that the party should prepare for a revolt.

The new document has been prepared incorporating the contents of both the papers. Earlier, in his document, Dahal had stated that the party’s repeated attempts to capture the state failed to convince the hard-line faction that revolt is not possible at this point. The document also states that decisions regarding the issues such as government, peace and constitution will be settled as per the agreement in the party’s seven-member headquarters.
