SINDHULI, JAN 24 -

UCPN (Maoist) Secretary CP Gajurel on Tuesday ruled out the possibility of drafting of new constitution by the May 27 deadline. Gajurel remarked that the Maoists do not agree to the constitution imagined by the other parties and vice versa, therefore, there is no possibility of timely constitution.

Addressing an interaction program at Sindhuli, Gajurel said that Maoist would never accept the kind of constitution proposed by Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML. However, he said that if NC and UML agree to promulgate a “people’s constitution” as proposed by the Maoist, then there is a chance that the constitution would be readied within the deadline.

Saying that the parliamentary system was a failure, Gajurel said that there was no need for a people’s revolt if the parliamentary system was to continue. Gajurel further claimed that the nation needs a people’s constitution.

Gajurel warned that a constitution would be made through another people’s revolt if the government fails to promulgate it in time. He said that the NC and UML might agree to the people’s constitution if the Maoist takes forward the preparations of a people’s revolt along with the peace process.

Moreover, Gajurel said that the Maoist establishment lost the bird in hand while vying for two in the bush.
