PALPA, JAN 24 -

UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that his party has remained united for peace process and constitution writing. He quickly added that he came amidst the people to given the same message.

Speaking at a press conference organised by the Palpa chapter of Federation of Nepali Journalists on Tuesday, the Maoist chairman claimed that his party has really become united but not just for the sake of showing that the party is united.

Meanwhile, contrary to Dahal’s claim senior Maoist leader CP Gajurel, who is believed to be a confidant of Maoist hardliner Vice Chairman Mohan Baidya, has been hogging the headlines for his statement about the ideological tussle within the party.

Top leaders of the Maoists including Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Prime Minister and Maoist Vice Chairman Baburam Bhattarai and another senior Vice Chairman Mohan Baidya, among other leaders, arrived here in Palpa to impart training to the party cadres.

At the press meet, PM Bhattarai said there will be another political breakthrough within a week. He claimed that the current government would turn into a national consensus government within a week

PM Bhattarai defended the recent Cabinet decision to legalise the transactions of land and properties made through the parallel administration run by the Maoists during the conflict, saying that the decision was made to give formality to the transactions but not to legalise the people’s administration. He further said he is ready to move ahead by holding discussions with other parties if they have any objection about the same.

He said that the government was compelled to increase the prices of petroleum products due to the price rise in international market. “Still, Nepal Oil Corporation is bearing a monthly lose of Rs 1 billion,” he added.
