Price hike concerns NHRC
KATHMANDU, JAN 23 - The National Human Rights Commission on Monday raised serious concerns over the disturbance of public life brought about by fuel price hike.
Issuing a press statement, the NHRC said the frequent fuel price hike not only makes the public life hard but also creates space for a handful of crooked shopkeepers who are looking for an opportunity to make money through black market.
"We urge the concerned stakeholders to take necessary steps to ease down the woes of public fueled by the price hike," read the statement. "The government should minimise the effect of price hike on marginalised groups and students by providing subsidy."
The NHRC also urged the student groups who have taken to the streets to protest the fuel price hike to remain calm and demonstrate peacefully.
