Those who wished for Maoist doom are in gloom: Dahal
HETAUDA, JAN 22 -
UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said the elements that tried to split his party and conclude the peace process in a “disrespectful” way were restless now. Those who wanted to see the Maoists and Prachanda weak have lost their sleep over the past few days, he claimed.
Speaking at an assembly organised in memory of late Bhakta Bahadur Shrestha in Hetauda on Saturday, Dahal
said the party had remained united for the Nepali revolution. “The party is united to conclude the peace process in a respectful way and draft a people’s constitution,” he said.
The Maoist chief added that the peace process could not be concluded by “encircling and humiliating” the Maoists. He warned that those who mistook his party’s flexibility for its weakness would have to pay a huge price in future.
Dahal also defended the government’s decision to legalise land and property transactions made through parallel governments run by the Maoists during the decade-long insurgency in the country. He claimed that the protest of the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML over the government’s decision was meaningless.
Maoist vice-chairman duo Baburam Bhattarai and Mohan Baidya also attended the condolence meet presided by Maoist politburo member and Tamsaling State Committee in-charge Agni Sapkota. Shrestha, the general secretary of the Maoist Advisory Council, died on January 11.
