PM, Koirala agree to accelerate peace process
KATHMANDU, JAN 22 -
Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and Nepali Congress (NC) Chairman Sushil Korila on Sunday agreed to accelerate the peace process and constitution drafting process.
During a conversation with the NC president, PM Bhattrai discussed about accelerating the peace process and constitution drafting. “The government wants to go ahead in the twin tasks along with all the political parties” PM’s Personal Secretary, Bishwadeep Pandey, quoted PM Bhattarai.
According to Pandey, Prime Minister stressed on holding a meeting on Monday to conjure agreements on the same.
The opposition parties – CPN-UML and NC – have not agreed to sit for any meetings unless the government scraps the decision to legalise the land transactions made by the Maoist parallel government during the insurgency. They have also boycotted the House sessions unless the government abides by the demand.
Prime Minister Bhattarai, who has shown serious concern over the delay in peace and constitution drafting process, would also be holding a meeting with UML leader KP Oli. Furthermore, PM Bhattarai met with UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and NC Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel. PM Bhattarai also telephoned UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal and NC General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula for the same.
