Party differences yet to be settled: Gajurel
SARLAHI, JAN 22 - UCPN (Maoist) Secretary CP Gajurel refuted the reports that the ideological differences within the party have been settled. He said that the recent Central Committee (CC) meet had only saved the party from split by forging consensus on some of the points of disagreements and urged not to be misled that all the disputes have been sorted out.
Gajurel clarified that the disputed issues such as the federal structure as decided during Palungtar plenum, establish people’s federal republic, among others, were only agreed upon, but there are many more that need to be discussed further. “The current strategy is to move ahead in unison on the settled issues,” said Gajurel. “All the disputes in the party have not been sorted”.
Mentioning that they were firm on their stance that the four-point deal is ‘anti-national’ and it is ‘surrender’ to the seven-point deal, Gajurel said that they were still at odds over the issues of peace process and statute drafting.
He acknowledged that the party was still divided on the lower levels despite the announcement of ‘unity’. Saying that the party decisions will now be taken on consensus, Gajurel said, “The decision made by the majority will not be enforced to the minority”.
Maoist Secretary Gajurel further stressed that the decisions should be made as per the consensus in the party and the issues yet to be decided should not be implemented.
He said that the present government was a failure and added that such failed government under his party leadership should resign as soon as possible.
Speaking on the possibility of drafting the constitution Gajurel said, “New constitution will be drafted if Nepali Congress and CPN-UML agree to shoulder the new system. If they stick to the old system, the constitution will not be drafted. We will not accept it,” he added.
