Afghanistan arrests British contractors with guns
KABUL, JAN 05 -
Afghan police have arrested two British security contractors and two Afghan colleagues after finding a cache of weapons in their vehicle.
Ministry of Interior spokesman Sediq Sediqi said Thursday that police found more than two dozen AK-47 rifles in the vehicle when it was stopped Tuesday at a Kabul checkpoint. He said the weapons had no permits and their serial numbers had been removed, so police arrested all four men.
Sediqi said prosecutors are investigating the case.
The men's employer, international security company Garda World, could not immediately be reached for comment. The British Embassy said it was providing consular services.
Afghanistan has ordered all private security companies closed by the end of March. They will be replaced by a new Afghan force.
