BAGLUNG, JAN 03 - CPN-UML leader KP Oli said that a new constitution is not possible as long as the Nepali Congress (NC) and UML, both of which have a prominent history in Nepali politics, remain in the opposition bench.

Oli remarked that the works relating to the peace under the UCPN (Maoist) leadership cannot be trusted so long as they have command over their combatants and arms. Oli further claimed that peace and constitution can only be possible if all the agreements made so far are executed through a national consensus government.

Addressing a party training session in Dhaulagiri today, Oli said, “Maoist’s plan to go for an election with arms and combatants at their disposal after robbing billions off the people should be stopped.”

Furthermore, he urged his party leaders, who have overlooked serious issues like murder, robbery and so forth in the name of peace process, to come to their senses.

“No constitution is possible until UML and NC are in opposition. We would also reject an incapacitated constitution that has not addressed major issues like state restructuring and the power distribution,” said Oli.

He further stated that Nepal should not opt for federalism along the ethnic lines.
