Women held hostage for hours

Three women were “taken hostage” following a clash between the people of two nieghbouring VDCs in Gorkha on Saturday night.

A group of about 90 inhabitants of Shrinathkot-9 took three women of Masel-3 under their control and held them hostage for hours. Police freed the victims from captivity after 12 hours on Sunday.

The enraged Shrinathkot folks forcefully took Sukmaya Baram, Kopila Gubaju and Batai Baram under control for their sons allegedly attacked and injured one Kamal Khadka in a dispute at a local football tournament. “They barged into the house at night and asked where my son was. They took me forcefully with them as the son was not there,” Batai told the Post on Sunday over phone.

The Shrinathkot folks admitted that they took the women with them. “We took them to show the condition of injured Kamal who was beaten by their sons. Who will take responsibility if anything happens to the injured?” said Nandu Nepali of Shrinathkot.

He claimed the villagers agreed to free them after police assured to arrest the accused—Shital Gubaju, Hari Baram and Anish Baram.

The injured, who sustained deep head injuries, is undergoing treatment at a local health post. “We have freed the women from captivity. I instructed the local police post to investigate over the incident and take action against the guilty,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police Bahadur Gunj Malla.
