KATHMANDU, DEC 29 -
Various teachers unions under the banner of the All Nepal Teachers’ Association and All Nepal Teachers’ Union announced protests against the government, saying the eighth amendment to the Education Act will not address their demands.
Organising a press conference on the premises of the Ministry of Education on Wednesday, they said that sit-in programmes will be organised for next one week. Similarly, they will go for “non-cooperation protests” from January 5-14, which will be followed by school closure from January 15. The unions have been pressing the government to give permanent status to all the temporary teachers and rehabilitatation the teachers who were compelled to quit jobs during the conflict period, among others.
