‘Comment on SC verdict futile’
KATHMANDU, DEC 29 - CPN-UML Vice Chairman Bidhya Devi Bhandari has said that it was futile and unnecessary to comment on the SC’s verdict.
The UML leader made such remark at time when the Supreme Court’s refusal to review its ruling on Constituent Assembly term extension has generated mixed reactions from all quarters.
Talking to mediapersons in Ilam Thursday morning, Bhandari accused the political parties of trying to impose authoritarianism by giving unnesessary comments against the SC decision.
She said political parties should be united and strive to draft the new constitution within the next six months.
On the occasion, she stressed on the need to go for a fresh people's mandate if the parties fail to draft the constitution in the stipulated time frame.
In a different context, Bhandari, also a former Defense Minister, said that bulk integration based on caste or geographical identity in Nepal Army (NA) was against the spirit of the constitution and Nepali people.
“NA should not be divided along the political and ethnic lines,” Bhandari said. “It could bring factionalism in the institution,” she added.
She also maintained that the present government was taking decision just to prolong its life and it could have long term repecussions.
Bhandari, who was in the district to inaugurate the first district assembly of Madan Bhandari Foundation, said that her party was falling prey to the activities of opportunists and dual-character persons.
“People with such characters could prove to be fatal for achieving the party’s targets and objectives,” she said.
