India cuts 70 pc fuel supply to Nepal

NEPALGUNJ, DEC 27 - India has slashed the fuel supply to Nepal by 50 percent owing to the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC)’s failure to clear the outstanding dues, triggering a crisis of petroleum products across the country.

NOC owes Rs 1.6 billion in outstanding dues to Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the sole supplier of petroleum products to Nepal. General l public are reeling from the crisis.

According to head of Mid-Western regional office of NOC, Sita Ram Pokherel, IOC cut down heavily on the supply of fuel from Tuesday.

The NOC official said that India began cutting on the fuel supply by 60 to 70 percent due to the non-payment of due. Due to the reduction in supply, major oil consumer cities such as Kathmandu, Biratnagar and Birjung.have been hit hard by the crisis.

The IOC, which had been providing 250 Kl of petroleum product to Nepaljung depot, reduced the supply to 100 Kl from Tuesday.

Likewise, fuel supply to the country’s largest depot, Raksawl Depot, has been slashed to 800Kl from the daily 1300 Kl.
