Morcha ministers fail to impress their party juniors
KATHMANDU, DEC 25 - Second-rank leaders of the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha have voiced dissatisfaction at the performance of their seniors in the government.
They are of the view that core issues pertaining to the southern plains such as inclusive bill and recruitment of Madhesi youths to the Nepal Army have not been taken up strongly.
Speaking to the Post on Sunday, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Loktantrik leader Jitendra Narayan Dev said that the performance of the senior leaders in the government was not up to the mark and that if they cannot push forward the agenda of Madhes at the desired level, then there is no point in their holding ministerial portfolios.
Echoing Dev, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Ganatantrik leader Rajkishore Yadav said there is a general perception in the concerned section of Madhes that the current leadership of the Morcha has not been able to deliver on the agenda of Madhes. “The focus of the leaders who head ministries is more on promotion and transfer of officials rather than pushing forward the agenda of Madhes,” adds Yadav.
There also seems to be confusion among the second-rung leaders of the Morcha about the recent Cabinet decision to recruit Madhesi youths to the Army. Government Spokesman Narayan Kaji Shrestha, emerging from a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, said that the government had decided to recruit 3,000 Madhesi youths, including Dalits, Muslims, and indigenous communities in the region, to the national army. However, Cabinet members from the Morcha have clarified that the recruitment would include all communities and not just those in the Madhes. “We haven't got a clear picture as to what has really happened in this regard as different versions about it have come out,” says Yadav. Even Dev said that he had perceived that 3,000 Madhesi youths including Dalit and indigenous groups in the region would be recruited to the Army.
Meanwhile, an informal meeting of the Morcha Coordination Committee, attended by many budding leaders, on Saturday objected to the government's decision to recruit Madhesi youths to the Army as per the latter's standards. A formal meeting of the committee scheduled for Tuesday is expected to make its stand clear.
