General election within a year: NC chief

HETAUDA, DEC 25 - Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala has said that the nation will hold general election within a year after promulgating the new statute and concluding the peace process.
Inaugurating an office building of NC Makwanpur in Hetauda-2 on Sunday, Koirala urged the NC activists to strengthen the party organisation at the village level since the country will go for the election within a year.
The NC president charged that the peace process has been delayed owing to the totalitarian attitude of the UCPN (Maoist). He claimed the peace process will be brought to a successful conclusion as the Maoists will gradually understand that there is no any alternative to Loktantra in the country.
Accusing the former rebel of not living up to their commitment, Koirala said the Maoists have to implement the agreements reached with the political parties to win the people's support. The NC chief said he urged Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to evacuate the cantonments and hand over arms to the government.
