Police arrest 4 notorious looters
KATHMANDU, DEC 25 -
Police on Saturday rounded up four notorious robbers, all members of a group that had long been looting houses by holding people at gunpoint or even killing those standing in the way of robbery bids.
A squad deployed from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) arrested Sagar Tamang (25), Dil Bhadur Syangtan (25), Deepak Tamang (23) and Mana Raj Lama (20) from different parts of the Kathmandu Valley. Four weapons, including two country-made pistols, a 9mm automatic pistol and a revolver with seven rounds of bullets were seized from their possession. According to MPCD chief SSP Devendra Subedi, the arrestees were behind the murder of Thamel-based businessman Shrawan Khadka (40). Khadka, on Nov 7, was shot dead when he confronted the looters.
The group was involved in several cases of lootings, including at Dhapasi-based house of DSP Kalllar Singh Thapa. The looters six months ago had barged into the house of Thapa and looted property worth over Rs 300,000.
