General strike in Janakpur against corruption

JANAKPUR, DEC 24 - Representatives of a political mechanism under the Janakpur Municipality enforced a general strike in Janakpur on Saturday.
The markets of the district remained closed today, in line with the strike called by the mechanism to demand investigation into surging corruption in the municipality and action against guilty.
The shops, business complexes of the municipality remained closed. Vehicular movement was also brought into halt.
The representatives of mechanism, including a large number of students and supporters, staged demonstration, burning tires on the road.
Earlier on Thursday, the demonstrators had burnt effigies of Chief District Officer and Minister for Local Development.
The demonstrators have been staging various protest programmes for the last one month; however, they have failed to draw the attention of concerned ministry and the local administration.
