SIRAHA, DEC 22 -

A group of dacoits created havoc as they killed a local youth and left six injured while robbing four houses at Belha-3 of Siraha district on Thursday. The dacoits looted more than a million.

Fifteen year-old Suresh Sah, son of Raghunath Sah, was shot in head by one of the robbers. Shah took his last breath as he was being taken for treatment.

The other six people, who were seriously injured by sharp weapons and bombs, are being treated in the District Hospital of Siraha. The injured have been identified as Shivanath Sah and his wife Sunita Sah, Pramod Sah, Gitadevi Sah, 12-year-old Chadani Sah and 7-year-old Chandan Sah, according to the District Police of Siraha.

It was at the wee hours of Thursday when a group of 7/8 robbers broke into the house of Jogindra Shah and his brothers and robbed them. However, the police, which was about 200 meters away, failed to reach the robbery site even when the locals counterattacked for almost an hour.

This enraged the locals and triggered severe demonstrations against the police. The locals also burned down tyres in front of the Belha Police Office. The mob even tried to burn down the police office in course of the attack, but, police stopped it by firing half a dozen shots in air to disperse the horde.
