INARUWA, DEC 22 - CPN-UML Chief Whip Bhim Acharya has said that the party would protest from street and parliament if the decision regarding the bulk integration of Madhesi youths in Nepal Army (NA) was not revoked at the earliest.

Acharya said the government’s decision to recruit 3,000 Madhesi youths, including those from Dalit, indigenous and backward communities in the region, was taken to make NA a centre of dispute and added that his party would protest if it was not corrected.

Talking to eKantipur in Inaruwa on Thursday, Acharya said UML was not against making NA inclusive, but the bulk entry of any particular ethnicity or group into the organisation was flawed and they would not accept it at any cost.

Stating that at present 55 percent of NA personnel was recruited through open competition and 4 percent from the reservation quota, Acharya maintained that the government must bring an inclusive bill to ensure inclusiveness not only in NA but in other security bodies as well.

Accusing Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai of attempting to prolong the tenure of the government by taking such decision, Acharya expressed concern that the government activities could hamper the ongoing peace and constitution drafting processes.
