‘Oli should be ranked third in UML’s hierarchy’
KATHMANDU, DEC 20 -
CPN-UML Vice Chairman Bamdev Gautam has said that the party has been preparing to manage the internal party dynamics by giving Standing committee leader KP Oli the status of a ‘senior leader’.
Gautam said Oli should have been given the hierarchy earlier but it was delayed due to internal rift.
Speaking to Kantipur FM’s regular programme ‘The headliners’, Tuesday morning, Gautam said, “Oli should be ranked third position in hierarchy after another senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal.”
He said though discussions were held in the party to give Constituent Assembly (CA) membership to Oli, him and Amrit Kumar Bohara, Gautam said he does not favour the proposal.
After the party's eighth general convention in Butwal in 2009, Nepal was named a senior leader while Oli, who was defeated by Khanal, was limited to the status of a Standing Committee member. Currently, he is heading the Department of Foreign Affairs of the party in capacity of a Standing Committee member.
Both Oli and Gautam were defeated in the CA elections in 2008 from their respective constituencies in Jhapa and Bardiya.
