BHAIRAHAWA, DEC 19 -

Police have arrested a 19-year-old youth from Shiddhrathanagar in Rupandehi for staging a fake abduction.

Brijesh Chauhan was taken into custody after he was found guilty of concocting his own abduction with the help of his friend Pankaj Sharma to fleece Rs 500,000 from his parents five days ago. Sharma, who had worked as an informant, has also been arrested. Their misconduct was revealed when the police intensified search to locate Chauhan, who had been hiding near Gautam Buddha Airport.

”As we were closing in on Chauhan based on the call details between him and Sharma, the boy got nervous and returned home,” said Superintendent of Police Rabindra Nath Regmi.

Chauhan’s charade did not stop right there. With the police on his heels, he was apparently desperate to assert that he was kidnapped for real. So he used a blade and cut himself on different parts of his body. When he showed up at home with bleeding cut wounds, he convinced his parents that he had managed to escape from five abductors who were armed with a knife.  “We didn’t believe that the boy fought five abductors and questioned him. He finally admitted to his plot,” Regmi said.
