KATHMANDU, DEC 18 -

It was double delight for Armed Police Force (APF) in the Third Nation-wide Boxing Championship at the Satdobato Sports Complex on Saturday.

The departmental team won the team title with 10 gold medals and had a player each in both the men’s and women’s category adjudged as the most valuable player.

APF’s arch-rivals, Nepal Police Club, finished second with three golds, while Nepal Army (NA) failed to live upto their reputation, settling for a distant third with just two golds under their kitty.

Kavindra Maharjan and Sanju Lama, both from APF, took honours for most

valuable players in the men’s and women’s category respectively. In the final bouts held in the last day of the

five-day championship, APF won six of their total gold medals in the men’s category and the remaining in the women’s category. Bikram Pariyar fetched them their first gold while Puran Rai who had participated in the 16th Asian Games last year, gave APF their second gold. Kabindra Maharjan added the third and Bhupendra Bista was next on the list. The other winners for APF were Devendra Maharjan and Ganesh Ram Chaudhary.

APF bagged the rest of their four gold medals in the women’s category through Mala Rai, Maya Chaudhary, Sanju Lama and Pramila Pandey in the 48, 51, 54 and 57 kgs respectively.

The top three winners in all the categories were feted with Rs 5,000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2,000 respectively.
