Strikes against NC ideology: DeLisi
KATHMANDU, DEC 17 - US Ambassador to Nepal Scott H DeLisi has put forth his belief that Nepali Congress (NC) would withdraw the strike that the party has called for Monday.
DeLisi, who had also pressurised the UML sister organisations earlier to call off the strike that they had called, wrote on his Facebook status that burning the vehicles of taxi drivers trying to earn a living is not an answer. Demonstrations are one thing, but violence and harming others is different.
“Just as we urged the UML leadership to speak out recently I hope that the Congress leaders, who pride themselves on their long support for democracy, will tell their students that violence directed against their fellow citizens is NOT part of the democratic vision of the NC,” DeLisi’s status read.
NC has called for a general strike on Monday as a protest against the death of its sister organisation, Tarun Dal, chairman of Chitwan district, Shiva Poudel. Tarun Dal along with the Nepal Students Union stalled traffic on Saturday as well for the same.
