Maoist, SLMM agree to implement 4-pt pact
KATHMANDU, DEC 17 -
The UCPN (Maoist) and Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM), an alliance of five Madhes-based political parties, on Saturday agreed to strengthen the coalition by implementing the four-point deal signed between the two parties prior to the prime ministerial election.
The SLMM, which had threatened to quit the coalition if the deal was not implemented at the earliest, expressed satisfaction after the meeting. The meeting agreed to meet the demands of SLMM of recruiting 10,000 Madhesi youths in Nepal Army (NA), bring inclusive bill, address the citizenship problem, among others.
Chairman of Sadbhawana party Rajendra Mahato said that the meet ended on a positive note with the Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai assuring the implementation of four-point at the earliest.
“We have decided to hold a preparatory meet tomorrow and pass our demands through the Cabinet meeting on Monday,” Mahato said.
The SLMM has warned to rethink about the coalition with the Maoist if the latter remains apathetic towards implementing the deal.
Maoist Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Gachhadhar, also the chairman of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Loktantrik), Chairman of Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party (TMLP) Mahantha Thakur, TMLP-Nepal Chairman Mahendra Raya Yadav and Chairman of Sadbhawana party Rajendra Mahato were present in the meeting.
