Khanal for making Oli, Gautan, Bohora CA members
KATHMANDU, DEC 12 - CPN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal has formally proposed that the party name three leaders--KP Sharma Oli, Bam Dev Gautam and Amrit Kumar Bohara--as Constituent Assembly members.
The political proposal, which has been prepared to manage the internal party dynamics, also proposes giving Oli the status of a 'senior leader'.
The proposal, which is most likely to be presented in a Standing Committee meeting of the party supposed to be held on Monday, has ranked Oli in the third position in hierarchy after another senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal.
After the party's eighth general convention in Butwal in 2009, Nepal was named a senior leader while Oli, who was defeated by Khanal, was limited to the status of a Standing Committee member. Currently, he is heading the Department of Foreign Affairs of the party in capacity of a Standing Committee member.
Ghanshyam Bhusal, who is considered close to Chairman Khanal, said the decision was taken after discussions were held among the party's rank and file, including Nepal and Oli. "Both Nepal and Khanal will be respected as senior leaders, but Nepal will be placed at a higher position than Olijee," he said.
The party will take a decision on whom Oli, Gautam and Bohara will replace as CA members.
Both Oli and Gautam were defeated in the CA elections in 2008 from their respective constituencies in Jhapa and Bardiya. Bohara, who was named candidate for the CA under the proportional electoral system, refused to join the CA, citing the party's poor performance in the election.
