KATHMANDU, DEC 09 - Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala has remarked that there is no possibility of forming a national consensus government under the leadership of UCPN (Maoist). He claimed that the NC would lead the next consensus government after the peace process gains momentum.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Press Union in Sukute of Sindhupalchwok district, NC President Koirala accused the Maoists of being the most-corrupt ones in the history. He charged that the Maoists gobbled the allowance provided in the name of People’s Liberation Army.

Koirala went on to say that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai can not be acceptable.

He remarked that the security situation of the nation was deteriorating and that the local administration was involved in the attack on his party cadre Shiva Poudel—the Chitwan district president of NC-aligned Nepal Tarun Dal.

Koirala clarified that NC Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel was the prime ministerial candidate from the party as per the NC parliamentary party statute. The NC president further said that his party would take decision on the majority basis if consensus fails.

Saying that the Supreme Court directive to the government asking it not to provide various ‘illegal’ facilities to former prime ministers, ministers and members of former royal family, was praise worthy, Koirala stressed on the need for its implementation.
