'Further discussion on number will take toll on peace'
KAILALI , DEC 09 - CPN-UML leader Bhim Rawal has said that further discussion on the number of People’s Liberation Army combatants for integration would jeopardise the peace process. He reasoned that the major parties have already made an agreement on the same.
He said the government will manage the number of the Maoist combatants, who opt for integration in the Nepal Army, if the combatants’ number crossed more than the number determined by the parties. They will be asked again for the voluntary retirement and rehabilitation package, he added.
The major political parties have agreed to integrate 65,000 combatants in a new directorate of Nepal Army that will comprise 65 percent of the personnel from other government security agencies.
Rawal, who arrived here in Dhangadhi to attend the Far-Western Festival, noted the re are 43 percent of people below the poverty line and stressed that the nation should rather address their problems. RSS
