KIMFF kicks off

KATHMANDU , DEC 08 - The Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) opened in the Capital from Thursday.

A total of 52 films, documentaries and animations from 22 different countries would be screened in the festival. The documentaries are on the theme of mountain cultures, mountaineering, human rights, the mountain livelihood, globalization and gender, among others.

Renowned mountaineer Minga Sherpa, who scaled 14 highest mountains of the world, inaugurated the KIMFF and said standard documentaries and films should be made to bring in more tourists in Nepal.

Coordinator of the KIMFF Basanta Thapa said 17 films are in the category of international competition while 21 films are in non-competitive group. Similarly, six films are being shown under the Nepal panorama.

Top three films would be provided with 1,500 US dollars, 1,000 US dollars and 500 US dollars respectively along with trophies.

Likewise, top film in Nepal panorama would be awarded with Rs. 25,000 by Nepal Film Development Board. The Festival would continue till December 12. RSS
