DOTI, DEC 05 -

A school in Marketta VDC-4 in Doti district is forced to teach students in its office room. Pashupati Primary School has no classrooms ever since rains destroyed its six-room building last year.

Similar is the situation of Kalika Secondary School in Daud VDC. Without a school building, students are forced to attend classes on the ground.

Twenty schools in the district are reeling under the shortage of classrooms due to lack of school buildings.

Acting chief of the District Education Office Keshabraj Gyawali said that of the 21 schools destroyed completely by rains last year, only two have new buildings, while the rest were provided with Rs 100,000 each to have the buildings repaired. Chairman of Saraswati Primary School in Basudevi VDC said classes have been

affected as the school is constructing its new building.

“It is very difficult to study on the playground, where the cold bites us,” said a student of Saraswati primary school.

Police occupy classroom

SIRAHA: Classes have been shut at a primary school in Ramapura Bhediya, Siraha district, for the past four months after a police post was set up in one of the classrooms.

According to the school, of the four classrooms, one is used as the administration office. “We are facing problems in teaching the students after the police post was set up in one of the classrooms,” said Principal Gobardhan Nayak.

The school has 300 students. Nayak also accused some members of the school management committee and the local people of allowing the post to set up its office in the classroom without consulting him. Nayak said that though he informed the Education Ministry of the situation, no initiative has been taken to shift the post. Assistant sub-inspector of police Rajan Prasad Gelal said they were only obeying orders.
