‘PLA to vacate cantonment after rank harmonisation’
KATHMANDU, DEC 04 - UCPN (Maoist) People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Spokesperson Chandra Prakash Khanal ‘Baldev’ has remarked that the cantonments would be vacated only after the completion of rank harmonization of combatants.
He added that the bridge course for the combatants and structure of the Nepal Army Directorate in which the combatants would be admitted should be finalised.
Speaking at a programme organised in the Capital on Sunday, Khanal said others works relating to the management of PLA including the bridge course, structure of the directorate and rank harmonisation have yet to be completed though the regrouping process has completed.
He objected to some of media reports that the PLA combatants opting integration would be integrated would be handed over to the Nepal Army. He underlined the need for conducting bridge course by keeping both the security personnel and PLA combatants. The Major parties have agreed to integrate 65 percent of security personnel and 35 percent of Maoist combatants in the proposed new directorate of NA.
Khanal, who is also the deputy commander of the PLA, said that if the integration number exceeds the one set earlier, then the government should either show some flexibility or integrate them into other security bodies.
Khanal said that even though they were trying their best to conclude the peace process, some leaders from the CPN-UML and the Nepali Congress were showing reluctance in implementing the agreement.
Baldev claimed the leadership of the directorate has not been finalised. He claimed that it would take at least three months for those opting voluntary retirement and five months for those opting integration.
