Nepal to take on Bangladesh
KATHMANDU, DEC 04 -
Sunday’s Group B matches in the SAFF Championship promise to be entertaining, as all the four teams have equal points earned from a draw in the first round of play. Nepal take on Bangladesh, the highest ranked nation in the region, while Pakistan face the challenge of the Maldives.
Nepal’s performance against Bangladesh should be dominating, given the way the Himalayan nation performed against the Maldives in the opening match on Friday. Despite having the upper hand throughout the match, Nepal were their own worst enemy as they appeared lacking in front of goals. Anil Gurung must have realized by now what difference he could have made to the score-line.
If Graham Roberts’ side manage to appear a little sharper up front, a victory does not look elusive for the team who have only once made it to the group stages of the championship since it started in 1997 in Kathmandu.
The Nepali squad also have a whole lot of motivation to help them achieve the target this time around. Besides having sufficient training sessions, the squad have a handsome deal at the end of the road, with the Anfa President promising to provide Rs 10,000 monthly for a life time for all the players if they come home with
silverware.
