20th IDPD observed
KATHMANDU, DEC 04 -
The 20th International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) was observed in the Capital city on Saturday by organising different programmes with the theme—‘Together for better world for all: Including persons with disabilities in development’.
To mark the day, a peace rally was organised by the National Federation of Disabled-Nepal (NFDN) that started from Basantapur and concluded at Bhrikuti Mandap.
After the rally, a cultural programme was organised at Bhrikuti Mandap where persons with disabilities
(PWDs) showcased their inner talents through dramas, dance, songs, and other ways to prove that, if given
opportunities, they are talented like able people.
Birendra Raj Pokhrel, president of NFDN, said the state restructuring process without the participation of PWDs cannot ensure their rights.
He stressed for equitable representation of PWDs in every state mechanism. Pokhrel also underscored the need of effective implementation of UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities that was ratified
two years ago.
