Police ASI among two killed in fire exchange
MAHENDRANAGAR, DEC 02 - A violent shoot-out between a team of police personnel and armed robbers at Daiji VDC-1 in Kanchanpur district on Friday evening ended in two deaths and two serious casualties.
According to the Kanchanpur District Police Office (DPO), Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Bhangi Rana and an unidentified robber died in the incident, while Senior Constable Prem Chand and a robber identified as Shriram Dagaura Tharu of sustained serious bullet wounds.
It was learned the conditions of both the injured were critical and that the doctors at Mahakali Zonal Hospital referred the duo to Kohalpur Medical College in Banke district for further treatment.
Doctors at Mahakali Zonal Hospital involved in the treatment of the injured victims said Chand has sustained bullet injury on his chest, while Chadaura has three gunshot wounds on his back.
Superintendent of Police Lokendra Malla said the patrol team was deployed to the area to capture the people behind recent spate of robberies that took place in different parts of Kanchanpur and the neighbouring Kailali district. The incident site is located just six kilometers away from Kanchanpur district headquarters Mahendranagar. In the wake of the incident, senior security officials reached the location to take stock of the situation.
Local witnesses said that the security personnel were on plain clothes at the time of the battle.
