SC verdict should be reviewed: Dev Gurung
KATHMANDU, DEC 01 - UCPN (Maoist) parliamentary party Chief Whip Dev Gurung said that the Supreme Court (SC) should review its verdict on extension of the Constitutional Assembly (CA) term by six months for the last time.
Speaking at an interaction program organised by the Reporters Club in the Capital, Gurung said that the government should urge the SC to review its verdict as it breaches the parliamentary jurisdiction.
“It seems like the SC has given a political order to the government. This redeems the SC and also raises question on its impartiality. Therefore, the government should urge the SC to review its decision,” said Gurung.
The Parliament on Tuesday had extended the tenure of the CA, with the permission of Supreme Court, for six more months beyond its November 30 deadline.
Highlighting the need of national consensus government, Gurung said that if the government scrapes the four-point deal, BIPPA, and other such ‘anti-national’ agreements, then a national government could be formed under the leadership of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai.
Gurung further said that the number for integration of the Maoist combatants can be altered. Stating that the agreement was a political decision, Gurung said that the leaders could alter it according to the need.
