PLA regrouping process completed in six camps
KATHMANDU, NOV 30 -
The regrouping process of former Maoist combatants has concluded in six out of seven camps of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
The task of re-categorising the PLA soldiers wrapped up in Fifth and Sixth Division camps after a few remaining combatants completed the regrouping process on Tuesday.
Out of 2,430 fighters under the Fifth Division camp, 2,227 participated in the regrouping with 1,281 choosing integration and 946 taking voluntary redundancy option. No one went for rehabilitation option, a camp official said.
The camp secretariat informed that 203 combatants were absent; among them many are expectant mothers, disabled and those on leave. They are said to be regrouped in Kathmandu.
Under Sixth Division, 2,934 out of 3,097 combatants were regrouped, while 163 were in the absent list. Among the regrouped, 1,550 combatants opted for integration and 1,384 settled for voluntary retirement deal.
Though the UCPN (Maoist) had issued a quota of 1,350 for integration for Sixth Division, over 200 combatants signed up.
Regrouping of PLA fighters in Seventh Division is likely to extend for a few days more. Out of 3,321 combatants, 2,585 have been regrouped as of Tuesday. So far, 1,212 fighters have chosen integration; 1,370 voluntary retirement and three have taken rehabilitation deal.
