UML, Maoists object to SC verdict on CA extension
KATHMANDU, NOV 30 - UCPN (Maoist) and the CPN-UML lawmakers have criticised the Supreme Court (SC) verdict that the term of the Constituent Assembly (CA) can only be extended for the last time and for six months.
Speaking at the special hour at Wednesday’s Legislature-Parliament session, Maoist lawmaker Amik Sherchan alleged the SC of encroaching on the jurisdiction of the Legislature. He added that the parliament has the right to impeach the judges for the decision.
Likewise, UML lawmaker Dhirendra Bahadur Shrestha said that the SC should not have the right to prevent the CA from amending the Interim Constitution.
