PARBAT, NOV 30 - Nepali Congress (NC) Central Working Committee member and lawmaker Gagan Thapa has said that a government led by his party would be formed very soon.

He claimed that a NC-led government would be formed as soon as the peace process gains momentum.

“The twin tasks of peace and constitution writing would be concluded within six months,” said Thapa, speaking at a programme organised in Parbat on Wednesday. “The NC would lead the next government and hold the general elections.”

The NC leader said that he was desperate to defeat the disarmed UCPN (Maoist) in the next general election.

He said that he would resign from the post of lawmaker if the Constituent Assembly fails to draft a new constitution within the next six months.

“Time period is not a big deal in constitution-writing; intention is,” Thapa said. “If all the parties unite then every demand of the people would be fulfilled within six months.”

In a separate context, the NC lawmaker said there are internal differences within the NC and the CPN-UML but not ideological conflicts as in the Maoists.

He also drew the attention towards the possibility of obstruction in the peace process owing to the ideological differences within the Maoists.

Saying that the increase in the number of Maoist combatants opting integration would not affect anything, Thapa said that 80 percent of lands of Congress leaders is still in the clutch of Maoists.
