KATHMANDU, NOV 24 -

Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has proclaimed that the country’s journey to economic development has been initiated.

PM Bhattarai made such announcement during a discussion held at Ministry of Finance (MoF) on Thursday.

Expressing his optimism in completing the peace process at the earliest, PM Bhattarai directed the respective ministry and department heads to accelerate the economic development in the country. PM Bhattarai said the first priority of the present government was the peace process followed by economic development.

He directed the officials at MoF to carry out the development plans more effectively citing that the country could not achieve the targeted prosperity despite the presence of skilled manpower.

“Due to the transitional period we could not achieve the expected goal,” Bhattarai said. “Now on we should choose the right path to follow as the period has come to an end,” he added.

He urged the concerned sector to invest in the productive areas in the country to boost the economic development. He also declared that the political interferences and appointment in the corporation would be ended.

PM Bhattarai informed that the year 2012-13 would be declared as Investment year. He, however, urged not to expect sudden changes anytime very soon.

He also directed the officials to work transparently to give a sign of relief to the common people.

Also speaking on the occasion, Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun remarked that there were satisfying changes in the economy of the country and the government would achieve the targeted revenue collection.

He also informed to probe the fake VAT bills within January-February of the next year. Earlier the government had claimed to complete the fake VAT bills scam by October.

“We have decided to extend the probe till 2012 as we need to investigate the case minutely,” Pun said.
