UML CC meet underway
KATHMANDU, NOV 23 -
The Central Committee meeting of the CPN-UML is underway at party headquarters in Balkhu on Wednesday to discuss the four-point special political proposal endorsed by the Standing Committee.
The CC meeting is due to hold discussion on national consensus government formation, extending the term of the Constituent Assembly (CA), among other contentious issues.
According to UML General Secretary Ishwor Pokhrel, the meeting will summarize the progresses made so far by the Baburam Bhattarai led-government and party’s opinion on extending the CA tenure.
The party has decided to demand the government’s resignation from the CC meeting today, sources confirmed.
Yesterday, the opposition UML had put forth two conditions—implementation of the seven-point deal and time-bound calendar to ensure timely completion of statute writing—for lending its support to extending the term of the CA as proposed by the government through a constitution amendment bill on Friday.
The SC meeting held yesterday had endorsed the four-point special political proposal and asked Prime Minister Bhattarai to clear the way for the formation of a national consensus government.
