Maoists have concealed weapons in villages: Sujata
BIRATNAGAR, NOV 23 - Nepali Congress central member Sujata Koirala remarked that the UCPN (Maoist) has been putting the peace and constitution drafting processes in peril.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Press Union in Biratnagar on Wednesday, the NC leader said she was not certain regarding the conclusion of the peace and constitution-writing.
Saying that the Maoists can’t be considered disarmed just by handing over the containers’ keys to the Special Committee, leader Koirala said, “The weapons stored at the cantonments are just to display; the Maoists should hand over the others weapons hidden in villages.”
Koirala accused the Maoist party of intending to climb to power using the same hidden weapons during the elections after the promulgation of a new constitution. She claimed that an environment of trust could not be created unless the Maoists hand over the weapons hidden outside.
Saying that the Maoists have been showing reluctance to return the party-seized properties on various pretexts, leader Koirala also urged the former rebel to give up “dual character”.
