POKHARA, NOV 22 -

Tourist hub Pokhara has been having a busy sports calendar this winter. And, here is one more to go in the list, as the Regional Volleyball Association on Monday announced it would be holding an international women’s volleyball championship, featuring eight teams.

The tournament, which is the first of its kind in the region, will run through December 21 to 24 and will be played in open air, said president of the association Chhyam Bahadur Thapa, adding that the event will make an attempt to pressurise the government to build an international covered hall in Pokhara.

Of the six teams, three teams, including two departmental sides—Nepal Police and Armed Police Force—and Eastern Railway Team from India, have already confirmed their participation, but the remaining three teams have to be finalised.

Thapa said they are planning on calling teams from Bhutan and Bangladesh. The winning side will get a cash prize of Rs 101,111, while the runner-up will take home Rs 50,555.
