Maoists CC meet deferred
KATHMANDU, NOV 17 -
The Central Committee meeting of the UCPN (Maoist) scheduled for Thursday has been deferred.
Meanwhile, party parliamentary board meeting has been called later this afternoon to hold discussion on amending the Interim Constitution.
Earlier, the Standing Committee meeting held on Wednesday had decided to amend the Interim Constitution so as to mandate the to-be-formed experts' panel to work on the basis of the report of CA Committee on State Restructuring and Distribution of State Power.
The hard-line faction of the Maoists led by Mohan Baidya and Indigenous people, among other groups, had filed a note of dissent on the constitution amendment bill, saying that the formation of the panel should not encroach upon the report and scope of the state restructuring committee.
The government had decided to amend the constitution in line with the seven-point agreement signed between the political parties to form a panel of experts to resolve the contentious issues on state restructuring. The Interim Constitution-2063 has the provision to form a commission to make recommendations for the state restructuring.
