KATHMANDU, NOV 15 - Lawmakers have demanded the government to take strict action against those responsible for tarnishing the country’s image in the international aviation sector.

During a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee of the Legislature-Parliament on Tuesday, the lawmakers accused the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) and Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) of unaccountability. They also raised objections to indifference shown by the CAAN and the NAC.

Lately, the operation of the NAC has been dogged by incidence like loss of expensive aircraft parts, thefts, and rats in the flights and misappropriation in construction. Lawmakers said that they were ashamed by the rising irregularities and mismanagement at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

They also sought the attention of Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation to take action against those involved in irregularities during the construction of helipads and runways.

Meanwhile, officials from the ministry, CAAN and the NOC present in the meeting said efforts were on to probe the irregularities and corruption.
