Dispute resolution committee meet inconclusive
KATHMANDU, NOV 14 - A meeting of the dispute resolution sub-committee under the Constitutional Committee ended inconclusively on Monday.
At the meeting held at parliamentary secretariat in Singha Durbar, Kathmandu the committee discussed the reports concerning the forms of governance and electoral system to be incorporated in the new constitution.
The sub-committee headed by UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal have been assigned to narrow down differences on the contentious issues of constitution drafting.
Emerging from the meet, the committee head and Maoist Chairman Dahal said that the meeting ended inconclusively.
"We will arrive at consensus after consulting with the political parties and within the sub-committee,” Dahal said. The detail contents of the report have not been disclosed. It has been understood that the report states the merits and demerits of all the forms of governance--presidential model, parliamentary model, and mixed model. Dahal informed that the reports would be made public only after the committee reaches agreement on the same.
Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Poudel said that his party would agree only on the parliamentary model despite other options put forward for consideration.
“No other models of governance can address the diversity of Nepal except the parliamentary model,” he said.
However, there is tentative agreement to adopt mixed electoral system.
